Work with us
Volunteer Internship Program
The Barbara McDowell Public Interest Law Center hosts Legal/Graduate Volunteer Interns and Undergraduate/Recent Graduate Volunteer Interns. We are unable to pay any portion of an applicant’s salary or provide assistance with securing housing during the internship period. We are, however, happy to work with students so that they may receive academic credit or outside funding for their work
Our interns will work closely with our legal director and staff attorneys on litigation matters, as well as projects such as speeches, op-eds and position papers. Our internship program will provide students with invaluable experience in the civil rights arena, as well as an opportunity to help us grow and shape our young and exciting non-profit organization for the future.
All of our interns will work remotely, but students will be expected to attend weekly staff meetings via Zoom, as well as regular meetings with their supervisors as needed.
Summer interns
Summer interns must work a minimum of 37.5 hours a week for at least 8 weeks during the summer.
Fall and spring interns
Fall and spring interns with a full course load must work a minimum of 10 to 15 hours a week during the fall and spring semesters, and 20 hours without a full course load.
We strongly encourage applications from candidates of color and candidates from underrepresented communities. Positions will remain open until filled, and applications will be reviewed as received.
